Nagoya offers air travel options with two airports. Central Japan International Airport (Centrair) is the main airport, serving international flights and domestic flights to major cities; Prefectural Nagoya Airport (Komaki Airport) caters exclusively to domestic flights. You can get to Centrair from Nagoya Station in about 30 minutes if you take the express train, or in around 50 minutes by car via the expressway. Prefectural Nagoya Airport is a 20-minute drive away.

Nagoya Castle, built by legendary shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, is the symbol of Nagoya City and known for its golden shachihoko (decorative roof ornaments of a mythical creature with a tiger-like head and a carp-like fish body). Located just a 20- to 30-minute drive from Nagoya's city center lies two gems: the revered Atsuta Jingu Shrine, which enshrines the legendary sword of Kusanagi, one of the three sacred imperial treasures of Japan; and the Garden Pier in the Port of Nagoya. At the Garden Pier, a variety of sightseeing and shopping opportunities await you, including the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium where the handlers will show you the orcas being trained.
Embark on a scenic journey through Nagoya's stunning bayside on the Meiko Triton, a trio of bridges that offer a unique and exhilarating driving experience. A 10-minute route, the bridges start from the Tokai interchange of the Ise-Wangan Expressway and end at the Tobishima interchange. Vibrant colors of red, white, and blue illuminate the bridges, creating a mesmerizing display at night. There are several other sightseeing attractions nearby, such as SCMAGLEV and Railway Park and LEGOLAND Japan Resort outside Kinjo-futo Station. Koran Gorge, a popular place for viewing the autumn leaves, is located about an hour’s drive from the city center. Day-use hot springs are also available for visitors to the gorge.

At Nagoya Castle, catch a performance of Nagoya Omotenashi Busho-Tai, a group of talented performers dressed in the attire of legendary figures such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Their performances are full of samurai spirit, including plays, sword fights, and dances; they’re held every Saturday, Sunday, and on national holidays.
Other events include: the Kinekosa Festival, one of the three unique festivals of the Owari region held on the 17th of the first month of the old lunar calendar; the Nagoya Port Festival Fireworks Show, held on Marine Day in July; and the Nagoya Festival, held in October.
