Yakushima Island is inaccessible by land with no connecting bridges or tunnels. To get to the island, visitors must travel by air or sea. Seven high-speed boats and one ferry connect Kagoshima Port to Miyanoura and Anbo ports on Yakushima daily.
Direct flights to Yakushima Airport are available from Kagoshima, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Five daily flights connect Kagoshima Airport to Yakushima in a swift 30-minute journey. Direct flights from Osaka Itami Airport and Fukuoka Airport offer convenient travel options to Yakushima, with flight times of 90 minutes and 65 minutes, respectively.
Yakushima, Japan's first World Natural Heritage site, is about 90% mountainous. There are many spiritually infused locations; there are also well-maintained trekking courses and walking trails through the ancient Yakusugi cedar forest.
