Shizuoka Prefecture is a beautiful area on the Pacific coast, where visitors can admire the ocean. The Tokaido Shinkansen passes through it, making it accessible from Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. The prefecture, which is horizontally wide, is segmented into four areas: the Izu Peninsula in the east, the area at the base of Mount Fuji, the central area with Shizuoka City at its heart, and the western area home to Lake Hamana.
If you are traveling by car, take the Tomei Expressway and the New Tomei Expressway. By renting a car from the nearest station, you would be able to make day trips to tourist destinations in each area.

Shizuoka Airport services both domestic and international flights. It has three international routes to South Korea, China, and Taiwan, along with seven domestic routes to Chitose, Okadama, Izumo, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, and Naha.

If you are interested in shopping, you should definitely visit the Gotemba Premium Outlets. It is a quick 10-minute drive from Gotemba Station and provides a shopping experience with a view of Mount Fuji. Or, if you are interested in learning more about Mount Fuji, consider visiting the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center located in Shizuoka Prefecture. A mere three-minute drive from Fujinomiya Station will get you there.
Try the thrilling Mishima Skywalk, a suspension bridge that offers a gorgeous view of Mount Fuji. It’s just a 20-minute drive from Mishima Station.
For nature buffs, significant attractions in Shizuoka include Shiraito Falls, recognized as a natural monument of Japan, and Joren Falls on the Izu Peninsula. In addition to these attractions, Miho-no-Matsubara , a pine forest often depicted in ukiyo-e woodblock prints, offers a striking contrast between the ocean and Mount Fuji. Each of these locations is roughly 20 minutes by car from the nearest station.

In February, the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival, famous for its early bloom, is a major event in Izu. The Atami Maritime Fireworks Festival, held in each of the four seasons, is also a famous event. Be prepared for traffic congestion during these events and remember to monitor traffic conditions if you are driving.

The Ota River Sakura Zutsumi and Sakura-no-Sato are famous for their early blooming cherry blossoms. There is no shortage of autumn foliage-viewing sites either, with Shuzen-ji Temple, Atami Plum Garden, and Hamamatsu Castle Park being notable examples.
Coastal regions enjoy a warm climate all year round, while winter brings snowfall to the inland plateaus and mountainous areas. Consider using studless winter tires if you are going to travel through Gotemba or other mountainous areas in the winter.
