5 Hotels with Easy Access to Kansai International Airport (KIX)

While people have been getting to Osaka by shinkansen or highway bus, more and more international flights are slated for departure and arrival at Kansai International Airport (KIX): the region’s main international airport.

Much like Narita Airport, Kansai Airport is a good way outside the city, making it quite the trek for those either coming or going. As such, we’ve found five hotels that will make your transition from airport to city (or vice-versa) as seamless, convenient, and accessible as possible. With rooms overlooking the city and station, the Hearton Hotel Nishiumeda is our more affordable recommendation. We imagine the hotel is perfect for travelers looking to stay in the city but also have an easy way to get to the airport without any hassle or transfers.

Equipped with a two-floor restaurant, the Hearton is a no-frills choice emphasizing location, comfort, and cleanliness. Rooms are also straightforward; guests have two options of rooms, either the double or twin room. All rooms come with the amenities you need and a view of the city.

What’s most impressive is its accessibility. Located just outside JR Osaka Station’s Sakurabashi Exit (桜橋口 in Kanji), the hotel is great for those coming and going to the airport. From JR Osaka, you’ve got two choices: the Kansai-Airport Express “HARUKA”, or the Kansai-Airport Rapid Service. While the names sound similar, the former takes only 45 minutes, while the latter takes a full hour and five minutes. If the timings don’t work out, there’s also the airport limousine bus, which takes 65 minutes.

Bonus tip: If you’re arriving earlier than expected and need a place to rest, you can check in from 11:00 a.m. rather than the usual 2:00 p.m. for an extra fee of 3,000 JPY per room. Just let the hotel know before you arrive!

On the opposite side of the station is the Harmonie Embrassee Osaka, a hotel that prides itself on its architecture and elegance. As such, the Harmonie Embrassee is our choice for couples or travelers looking for more than just an easy airport choice.

Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, this hotel isn’t a place where you sleep but a cozy habitat to recharge and rejuvenate; the hotel even has its own hotel room itinerary to show how you can make the most of your stay.

The rooms have baths, balconies to soak in the sights, and easy access to the hotel’s restaurant and cafe menus. Are you looking for something a bit more sophisticated? Then RAYON has course options for both lunch and dinner, which boasts a five-senses experience.

As the Harmonie is also located near JR Osaka Station, guests staying at the Harmonie Embrassee have the same two options: the Kansai-Airport Express “HARUKA” (45 minutes one-way), or the Kansai-Airport Rapid Service (65 minutes one-way).

However, please note that there is a ten-minute walk from the hotel to the closest exit (Midosuji South Exit). If you’re traveling in a larger group or have more luggage than expected, take a taxi from the station to the hotel if necessary.

Bonus tip: Completely drained after a long trip to/around Japan? The hotel has an in-room massage service that can be arranged from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Located in Shinsaibashi, the Hotel Nikko Osaka puts guests within 15-minute access to over 4,000 shops in the area. This hotel is our choice for travelers who have yet to finish their souvenir or window shopping and want to get more done before their flight. Conversely, the hotel’s location is one of the best spots for guests arriving in Osaka looking to feel the city’s vibe and atmosphere.

With four different types of rooms (including a suite), you’ve got all the choices you need before your flight: do you want to save some money to spend on a late-night outing in the area, or do you want to spend a little more and get a good day’s rest before your flight? The hotel also boasts nine restaurants and lounges scattered on its 32 floors, including a Japanese cuisine and sushi restaurant that looks across the iconic Midosuji Avenue - Osaka’s main boulevard.

One of the main draws of the Hotel Nikko Osaka is its in-built access to the Midosuji Subway Line - Exit 8 of Shinsaibashi Station directly connects to the hotel. From there, go one stop to Namba Station and transfer to the Airport Express (Kansai Airport). The whole trip takes around 55 minutes one way. Alternatively, the Kansai International Airport Limousine Bus also directly departs from the hotel at 7:30 a.m. and 3.05 p.m. daily.

For those seeking ultimate accessibility to the airport, the Star Gate Hotel Kansai Airport is right up your alley.

Located in Izumisano City's cosmopolitan Rinku Town, the hotel and its surroundings offer an adventure of its own. Within its 50 floors, the Star Gate hosts six different kinds of rooms, including Japanese-style rooms and suites. To serve the 358 rooms are the hotel's five restaurants with options such as Chinese, Shabu-Shabu (Japanese hotpot), and its main restaurant, Stargate, on the top floor of the building. Outside the hotel lies a variety of activities guests can undertake. Within a 10-minute walk are: Rinku's Premier Outlet Mall, the seaside Rinku Park, and serene fishing ponds.

With the airport so close, you've got two ways to get there. The first is by train (using the Nankai-Kuko Line), and the airport is only a stop away. The second is using the hotel's free shuttle bus to the airport, which you must reserve beforehand. Note: the shuttle bus only leaves in the morning, between 5:20 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Bonus tip: Haven't had your fill of fresh fish? The Izumisano Fisheries Cooperative Open-Air Fish Market is a great market open to visitors (reminiscent of Tokyo's Tsujiki Fish Market), where you can purchase fresh fish, then bring it to the market's second floor to have it cooked for you. It's a seven-minute taxi ride or a 30-minute walk.

Last but definitely not least is Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station. Courtyard's Shin-Osaka location earns this spot by combining easy access, convenience, and comfort into one experience. As Shin-Osaka Station is the city's Shinkansen hub, travelers coming from other cities in the Kansai area will be glad to know that the hotel is only a minute's walk from the station—no need for any transfers.
