A standalone vacation rental limited to one group of guests per day and offering complete privacy (the owner resides in a separate building). This farmer's residence includes breakfast and is ideal for slow vacations. We serve up homecooked meals packed with our own rice, naturally grown vegetables (no pesticides), and seasonal herbs. We accommodate allergies and vegetarian diets as well, so please let us know when you make a reservation.
For breakfast, we offer home-cooked meals made with home-grown rice and fresh, pesticide-free vegetables grown mainly in the fields in front of the guesthouse. The guesthouse is available for one group per day, so you can relax and unwind with just your family or group (the host is in a separate building about 10 meters away, so he can respond immediately to any questions you may have). There are several hot springs and other facilities within an 8-15 minute drive. The contrast between the blue and red of the sunset and the sun setting over the mountains from the garden is very beautiful, and you can enjoy the overlapping colors of the Kuma Shochu "TARAGI Blue" made with homemade butterfly pea. Surrounded by the basins and fields of the Kyushu Mountains, Oku-Kuma has been nurtured by a rich history and culture that has been certified as a Japanese Heritage Site, and there are unique rural customs and games that still remain. It is also a fun time to take a leisurely stroll and visit small shrines and temples. We also recommend visiting the Thirty-Three Kannon Bodhisattvas of Sagara during the spring and autumn equinoxes, pilgrimages to the temple, the Kuma Kagura dance performed at the shrine's annual festival in November, and the sea of clouds and starry skies in winter.
