- Chitose City is home to New Chitose Airport, known as the gateway to Hokkaido from the sky. Surrounded by magnificent nature, it is a regional city in Hokkaido. By taking Route 36, the city center is just a 10-minute drive from the airport. It is also next to the popular city of Sapporo, so consider renting a car for sightseeing. The Car Rental counter is on the first floor of the airport for your convenience. It takes nearly 50 minutes to travel from Chitose City to Sapporo City by way of Route 36, with a total distance almost 28 miles.

- A visit to Chitose is not complete without a trip to Shikotsu-Toya National Park, a mere 30-minute drive from the city center. Covering an impressive 247 acres, the park boasts the large calderas of Lake Shikotsu and Lake Toya, providing a variety of activities such as camping and canoeing. Otaru City, a famous tourist spot along with Sapporo, is about an hour and five minutes away; Niseko Town is about an hour and 50 minutes away by public road; and the Asahikawa area is two hours away by expressway, making it convenient for day trips from Chitose. - If you’re into events, you’ll love the Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival, which is held every year from late January to late February. The event features ice sculptures made of crystal-clear water from Lake Shikotsu. The sculptures are illuminated at night, giving the venue an enchanted atmosphere.
